New Butterfly Pictures

Yesterday, Wayne and I went to Shaker Village so that I could get some pictures of the beautiful flowers that they grow and the butterflies that love them. I was not able to get a variety of butterflies. Never the less I had lots of fun taking pictures of these beautiful creatures. I took at least 600 pictures of flowers and butterflies. I chose a few that I would like to share with all of you. I hope that you like them.

This is the very first photo that I took and I am pleased with how it came out. I used A shutter Speed of 1/800 seconds, F-Stop was at f/8, ISO was set at 400 and my focal lengthwas 300 mm. I used a tripod to take this photo. 

  

I love that the butterfly in this picture is in focus so that you can see it's head and legs clearly. I also love the contrast of the orange flower and the green background. Shutter Speed is 1/130 seconds, F-Stop is F/8, ISO 400 and the focal length is 220 mm. A tripod was used to take this photo.

 Shutter Speed 1/1000 seconds, F-Stop F/8, ISO 400 and the focal length is 210 mm. A tripod was used.

     

Shutter Speed 1/800 seconds, F-Stop F/8, ISO 400 and the focal length is 275 mm.

  

This was a fun shot to take. I have never seen a butterfly dive right into the flower the way that this one did. Shutter peed 1/100 seconds, F-Stop f/8, ISO 400 and the focal length is 300 mm.

   

The butterfly was so interested in what it was doing that it did not feel Wayne's' finger touching it. I tried to get a photo of it when it did fly away but the butterfly was was faster then I was.  Shutter speed: 1/600 seconds, F-Stop f/8, ISO 400 and the focal length is 240 mm.

 I'm not sure what the name of this butterfly is or if it is even a butterfly. It is small and I thought it was unique so I took a picture of it. Shutter speed: 1/000 seconds, F-stop f/8, ISO 400 and the focal length is 240 mm.

As I said, I took hundreds of pictures yesterday and I would love to share all of them with you but I think I will stop here and perhaps one day I will be able to add an album of just butterflies for those of you who would like to see them.

Portraits

These pictures were taken of young ladies who are models. It was my very first shoot with the Concord Camera Club that I belong to. Taking these portraits was not only a wonderful experience for me but an invaluable lesson as well. I learned more about using outdoor lighting and how to use a reflector. None of my portrait photos are perfect but I am quite pleased with how they came out. I think that I will get better with more experience. :) I hope that you enjoy looking at these photos.

 

This photo is my favorite of the few that I will be sharing with you. Although all of the models were fun to work with this lovely young lady was a joy to photograph. Shutter Speed: 1/250 seconds,F-Stop 5.6, ISO 160, Focal Length 135 MM a flash was used.

Shutter Speed: 1/125 seconds, F-Stop 5.6, ISO 400 Focal Length 135 mm. I did not use a flash.

This model was a lot of fun to work with too. As a matter of fact I have a few pictures of her making silly faces. But I decided not to share them. Shutter Speed: 1/125 seconds, F-Stop 5.6, ISO 400 and the Focal Length used was 117mm. I used a flash as well as a reflector. Perhaps the reflector should not have been used. The photo came out a little too light.

As you can see I cut some of her elbows off which is a no-no. I should not have focused in as much as I did. Still.........I like this photo. Shutter Speed: 1/250 seconds, F-Stop 5.6, ISO 400, 300mm. A Flash was used.

This was the only shot that I got of this very lovely model alone. Shutter Speed: 1/100 seconds, F-Stop 11, ISO 400 focal length 135 mm and I did use a flash.

This last shot was of all 3 of the girls. Because I am still learning how to take portraits taking one of the 3 of them together became quite the challenge for me. One had too much sun on her while another was too dark. So what I did was use Adobe Photoshop and made the photo black and white with just a tiny hint of color. Any constructive criticism is very  welcomed. :)

 

Shutter Speed: 1/500 seconds, F-Stop 5.6,ISO 400, Focal Length 135 mm. No flash. Hmm, I wonder if I had used my flash if that would have done the trick.

Wildflowers

During the day this past week most of our days have been beautiful. I went outdoors to help Wayne do a little gardening and I spotted some lovely little wildflowers growing in a few locations on our land. Off I went to grab my camera so that I could take some macro photos of them. I took way too many of photos to share with you so I picked a few that are my favorites. I have no idea what the name of this wildflower is or for that matter what the name of any of the flowers I took that day.  I can tell you that the size of these orange flowers are about the size of a nickel. I was very close to this flower when I took the picture. I would guess about 3 inches away? Not sure. Due to my distance I was not able to use a tripod so once again, I used my leg. The Shutter Speed that I used was 320 seconds, my F-Stop was 9, the ISO was at 400 and my Focal distance was at 132mm. I did not use a flash or a polarizer.

This shot was taken almost on top of the flower. :)I wanted to get as close to it as I possibly could. The shutter speed for this picture was 1/200 seconds, the F-Stop was 9, ISO was at 400 and the Focal Length was 135mm. I used my knee to keep the camera from shaking too much.

 

This wild flower is about the size of a silver dollar. Once again, I have no idea how close I was to it when I took this picture. I do now that I was very close and I used my knee to take it. The Shutter Speed was 1/300 seconds, F-Stop 5.6, ISO 400 and the Focal length was at 135mm.

 

One of the assignment's that we had to do in our photography class was to take a picture of three things in a row and only focus on the center object. That is what I did with this photo. Shutter Speed 1/600, F-Stop 5.6, ISO 400 and the focal Length was 135mm.

Even though this is one of my favorite photos I should have focused on the yellow flower better. Still, I love the yellow and green colors in this picture.  I seriously held my breath when I took this photo but still got some camera shake. Shutter Speed 1/3200 seconds, F-Stop 5.6, ISO 400 and the focal length was 135mm.

  

I don't think that these little yellow flowers are larger then a dime. :)  Shutter Speed was 1/2000 seconds, F-Stop 5.6, ISO 400 and the focal length was 135mm.
