I went to a card making class at Stamping Memories 2 weeks ago. We made 3 cards using the Brayer and sponge techniques. I used to make lots of cards using these techniques but it sure has been a long time since I have used them. So I decided to take the class with a friend of mine. We had a wonderful time. The cards all came out lovely. Of course when I got home I looked at all 3 of them and decided that I wanted to make a few changes to each of them. Just little changes. One cards however, I decided that I would change the design and add more of my own style to it. Have you ever done this after a stamping class? In all honesty this is only the second time I have done this.
Here is the card that I made in the class.
I know that we used a stamp from Stampscapes, black brads and black ribbon. We used several colors of ink for the brayer. White, Pink and Black card-stock was used. The sponge was used to help blend in more of our colors and then adding the black around the edges of the card.I apologize for not having the name of the inks that we used. I think they were the Marvy Matchables from Uchida.
Here is how I designed this card my way.
Because the colors of the sunset are so pretty,I did not want to sponge on any more black ink on my pink layer. I wanted to bring out some of the peach color from the sunset So I added a peach ribbon together with a black ribbon. Adding buttons just felt right so I added a light pink, peach and black buttons to help all of the colors flow together. Oh and I added the sentiment "enjoy". This sentiment is from Lockhart stamps. I used Basic black and pink Pirouette card-stock from Stampin Up!. The ribbon is from May Arts and the buttons are from Foo-Fa-la. The ink that I used to stamp my sentiment is Black Onyx from Versafine.
I realize that everyone has their own style. As all of you know I love ribbon and buttons and I always try to have a sentiment on the front of my card. I used the word "enjoy" so that this card can be used as a retirement card, a birthday card or for someone who might be going away on vacation. I hope that you enjoyed looking at both cards.
Personal Ramblings
I had the nicest things happen to me this week. I met a fellow card maker and blogger. Her name is Anne of Inking In Red. Anne, her Mom and husband came up to NH for a vacation. She sent me an email asking me a question and told me where she was vacationing, So I answered her question and then told her that I would love to meet her. On Monday we met at Stamping Memories. Her Mother was with her too. I was so excited and so grateful that I got to meet Anne and her Mom. It was such a pleasure. If your reading this Anne, hello and I hope that your still enjoying your vacation.:)I just love meeting other fellow stampers and scrapbookers. We are all a very special group of ladies.
I am still walking every single day that it is not raining. I have noticed that more and more people are honking their horns at me. What a hoot that is. I always have my ITouch playing and yet I can still hear the horns. Thank you for honking. It makes me smile. Tomorrow it is suppose to be in the 90's so I'm not so sure I will be able walk for very long.
Yesterday Wayne took me to Portsmouth. It was such a beautiful day and we had a lovely time. We stopped off at AC Moore of course. I bought only one stamp set and I had a 50% coupon so I spent only 5.00. Yay! On the way home we stopped off at Coles Gardens, Sams's Club, Wal-Mart and Home Depot. I did buy some more flowers for my gardens, picked up for a few items and then came home and took some photos of Wayne and some Apple blossoms. I hope to get a new Smile Box up by this weekend. This saturday my oldest granddaughter, Molly will be going to the prom. I will be going to her home to take lots of photos of her and Brian. I am so excited for her. Do you remember how it felt to go to the prom? I do. I felt like a princess.:)
Okay one last thing and I hope that what I have to tell you will make you smile as it did a little 4 year old girl. When Wayne and I went to Wal-Mart we ended up near the bicycle aisle. There were rows and rows of them. But only one adult bike on the floor. So I decided that I was getting on it and going for a little spin. Mind you, I have not been on a bike for at least 20 years. I was a little nervous but determined to take a ride. I got on the bicycle and off I went. I was a bit wobbly at first but then I was fine. I went up and down a few of the aisles. Oh it felt so good to ride a bike. As I was getting ready to ride through the last aisle a tiny little girl who was holding a pink 3 wheeler by her side saw mw coming her way and she had the biggest smile on her face and the cutest little giggle. What a treat that was. Okay so it is the small things that amuse me.:) I hope that all of you are having fun and that every so often you do something that made you happy many years ago. Smile. :)
Both cards are very pretty, Mary! And thanks for sharing your stories:)
