It's All About The Journey

Apple Picking

 This post is about my very first time apple picking and some pictures to help show just a fraction of what Wayne and I did at the  farm.  If you don't have time to read about my day and look at the photos I certainly will understand. After all You probably came to see a card about apples.:) I do have s project  to share with you and will as soon as I put the finishing  touches on it. I am also working on  a card and will post that very soon too.

Yesterday was a gorgeous day. The sun was shinning very bright, the temperature was in the high 60's and the sky was a beautiful bright blue. A great day to be outdoors. So off to Meadow Ledge farms we went  so that I could pick my very first apple.

  

The first thing I thought when I walked into the apple orchard was Wow! I had never seen so many apples in my life. There were some trees that had so many apples on them it was difficult to see the leaves. Here I am picking a Macintosh apple.

 

Wayne is examining the apples before he puts them into his basket. I took a  picture of him also eating one of the apples but decided not to post it because it was not a very flattering shot of him. :)

 

Yes, I took photos of apples. :)

The farm that we went to also has peaches, pumpkins and blueberries. I'm sure they grow other produce but I have not purchased any thing else there yet.

   

I not only took pictures of apples and of Wayne but I also took pictures of pumpkins, a photo of Wayne sitting on an antique tractor and a dragonfly. But I will spare you all of those photos. :) Here is one last one that I would like to share with you that Wayne took of me.

 

Neat shot huh? Wayne did cheat a little by using photoshop to put some pumpkins in the back of me.  I have got to learn how to use that program.

Anyway, I had a great day. Now all I need to do is find a really good  and easy apple pie recipe and then I am all set to make my very first  apple pie.

Today, Wayne and I took a 3 mile walk. It was in the low 70'sand cloudy. A perfect time to go for a walk. My favorite season is here an I am trying to take advantage of the outdoors as much as possible. Once the winter comes I will be stuck indoors a lot. Season's Greeting the Simple Way

Today I decided to make a card using some of the new things that I received in my Stampin'UP! order from the new catalog. It is a very simple card and so very easy to make. If I wanted to make multiples of this card for Christmas it would not take me long to make them. But I have a feeling that I will be making Christmas cards using  different stamps and papers and not duplicating many of them. Okay on to the card.

To make this card I used Stampin'UP! Confetti, Whisper White and Olive Green Card-stock. I used The Polka Dots Backgrounder from Cornish Heritage Farms and the sentiment from To You and Yours from Stampin'UP! The designer paper and  designed scalloped die cut are from the  I Wish Simply Scrappin'  set also from Stampin'UP!  I used Real Red ink from SU and to make the polka dots on my card I used Brilliance Moonlight White ink from Tsukneo. The ribbon is from May Arts. I used a 2 " scallop punch from EK Success to make the Old Olive round scallop. I popped up both the small round circle and the larger circle to give extra dimension to my card. Today I was in the mood to make an easy Christmas card and that is exactly what I ended up with. At first I was not too sure that I liked the end result. But the more I looked at it the more I liked it. :) The finished size of my card is 4 1/4 X 5 1/2".

My weekend flew right by me. I never did make it to the Audubon Society this past Sunday because I had the wrong weekend for the dragonfly meeting. It was the Sunday before last. Grrr. I stayed up extra late Saturday to get my dragonfly photos onto a CD to bring with me. I had my clothes all set to go for the morning and then................I checked my date book right before I began getting ready because I had this nagging feeling that something was not quite right. Well, I am glad that I checked because getting out and then back home was going to be quite the journey due to  the Sylvania 300 Races. Wayne is very happy that I checked too. :) 

Tomorrow I have PT and then I will be going toStamping Memories to pick up a few items and chat with Liz and Bette. Then off to run a couple of errands and get back home by 6 PM so that I can take the on-line class that CHF will be having. Have you signed up for it? I am quite excited about this class. All of the classes that I have taken with them has been awesome. How cool is it that they are free classes?

Well, I am off to cut up some stamps so that I can stamp some more cards in the coming days. I hope that you all have a wonderful week. Smile. :)

A Postage Kit

Have you ever wished that you had something nice to keep your stamps, some of your return address labels and a pen in? Well I have. I have been keeping those items in one of my wooden baskets for years. The basket has also been kept in my kitchen for years. Aside form my postage items there are lots of paper items in it like store receipts, mail, and papers that I scribbled notes to help me remember things. In other words the basket has been a catch all for paper stuff for years. I clean it out about 4 times a year. I hate being disorganized and I hate clutter.

A few days ago I received some more glue from UHU and an accessory tin box made by Saunders. Was I up for the challenge of making something with it? You bet. Today I finally took the time to make myself something that I think is pretty and will store my postage items in.  Now when I am ready to do the bills, send some cards or yikes write a letter I am all set to go.

Here is my finished project on the outside. First I painted the silver metal box using Folkart Linen Outdoor  paint. I bought it at Michaels and I really like it a lot. It dries fast and leaves a very nice finish. I used the Blue Awning collection K&Compnay. I *love* this collection can you tell? :)  After I cut all of my papers to the size that I needed I then took the UHU all purpose liquid  glue and applied it  using a foam brush to each  cut out strip. This gave me a nice even coverage. I placed my papers on and inside of my box. Because the glue is liquid it gave me time to put my papers exactly where I wanted them. I would say that the drying time took about 10-15 minutes. I am loving this glue.  When my box was all set to decorate I reached for items from the Blue Awning collection. Even the tiny pears are from that set.  I generated the words "Postage Kit" from my computer using Word.  I used the Marvy Uchida punches  to make the ovals. I popped up my ovals using the UHU Tac.

   

As you can see I did not paint the inside of my box. If I make more of these to give as gifts, and I just might then I would take the extra few minutes and paint the inside.

 

I will be keeping this box in my craft room because my room also serves as my office. Instead of my reaching for the basket in the kitchen and having to hunt around for my stamps etc. all I now have to do is reach for my Postage kit box. This will save me some time.

 

I wanted to show you what I put inside of my kit. I can put lots more in but I think I will keep it simple. So that is the project that I worked on today. I hope you enjoyed looking at it as much as I enjoyed  making it.

Wow! Saturday is almost over! Wayne and I did not go out any where special today. This weekend is the Sylvania 300 sprint cup race  in Loudon,NH and when we have a race that means  our not traveling too far because the town closes our road down at certain times of the day and night. So I went outdoors on our property to take photos of flowers and dragonflies. I got a few cool shots of a very red flower and of course the dragonflies. Here is a photo that I would like to share with you.

 

As I was taking some serious photos I heard a helicopter above coming my way slowly. It is not uncommon to see helicopterss overhead when we have our races each year. However, they are transporting people to the Raceway and they fly by quickly. I looked up and I saw this flying by and *had* to take a picture of it because it made me smile and because this is the first time I have ever seen an advertisement go  over my home.

This past week I have received some fun mail. I received my new Stampin UP! stamps sets and some new accessories. Today, I received stamps from both Gina K. Designs and Cornish Heritage Farms. So in between the things that I have to do this coming week I will be cutting stamps and then making cards. I am looking forward to making lots of new cards. :) 

Now, I have got to go and finish doing my laundry and copying some of my dragonfly photos onto a CD just in case I am able to attend the  meeting at the Audubon Society tomorrow  where I will be letting others see my photos and I will be learning more about these lovely winged creatures.
